
Chloe Christian Breaks School Pole Vault Record at Rainbow Relays

Honolulu, Hawaii – College of Charleston freshman Chloe Christian broke an 11-year-old school record in the pole vault to highlight the women's track & field team's performance at the Rainbow Relays.
Christian cleared the bar at 3.65m (11-11 ¾) to eclipse the record of Summer Chambless that had stood since 2008. Christian's mark was .01 meters better than Chambless and easily surpassed her previous PR of 2.90 meters.
Simone Harris topped the Cougar throwers including a PR of 48.12m (157-10) in the hammer and a winning throw of 13.29m (43-7 ¼) in the shot put that was the second longest of her career. She ranks second in the hammer and third in the shot in school history.
In addition to Harris, four other Cougars were event winners. That quartet included Leona Burton Rojas in the long jump (5.45m, 17-10 ¾), Jenny Martin in the high jump (1.56m, 5-1 ¼), Stephanie Laudien in the triple jump (11.39m, 37-4 ½) and Tess Masselink in the 2000 steeplechase (6:52.71).
Bryanna Sims established PRs in the hammer (36.71m, 120-5) and shot put (9.14m, 30-0), and Kimbra Owens did so in the hammer (34.17m, 112-1) and discus (36.01m, 118-1). Breanna Tatum had a career-best 5.35m (17-6 ¾) effort in the long jump which ranks eighth in the Cougar record book.
Turning in PRs on the track were Cate Ambrose in the 800 (2:22.51), Gianna Cucinotta in the 400 (1:04.16), Brooke Dudley in the 400 hurdles (1:08.35) and Aubree Boyle in the 200 (26.55).
The Cougars split the dual meet, defeating San Jose State, 107-52 and getting edged by Hawaii, 102.5-89.5.
The team is back in action in two weeks when it takes part in the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon.
