Three Cougars Establish Personal Bests at Phoenix Invitational

Elon N.C. – Gianna Cucinotta, Madeline Weber and Jenny Martin set new PRs, and several other Cougars had season-best marks on Saturday at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon.
Cucinotta had PRs in both the 200 (27.72) and 400 (1:03.29), Weber broke her mark in the hammer (40.33m, 132-3) and Martin had a career best in the long jump with a leap of 5.28m (17-4).
Weber also had a season-best throw in the shot put (10.50m, 34-5 ½) and Martin had a season-long effort of 37.11m (121-9) in the javelin for a fourth-place finish. Leona Burton Rojas had season-best showings in both the 200 (26.37) and long jump (5.47m, 17-11 ½), the latter good for fifth place at the meet.
Rounding out the season-best marks were Maya Pringle in the 100 (12.88), Kayla Ennis in the 400 hurdles (1:05.84), Stephanie Laudien in the triple jump (11.54m, 37-10 ½) and Courtney Brooks in the discus (36.67m, 120-3). Laudien's mark was good for third place on Saturday, and Brooks was ninth in the hammer (45.00m, 147-8).
The 4x400 team of Ennis, Laudien, Cucinotta and Brianna Lewis took fourth place with a season-best time of 4:03.86.
Nicole Lane (38.52m, 126-4) and Brooklynn Barton (35.19m, 115-5) joined Martin as top finishers in the javelin by placing second and sixth, respectively. Kristen Cherry was third in the 5000 (18:31.48), and Chloe Christian took fourth in the pole vault (3.52m, 11-6 ½).
Simone Harris had two top finishes, placing eighth in the hammer (47.13m, 154-7) and ninth in the discus (41.54m, 136-3). Tori Churchill placed eighth in the 5000 with a time of 19:03.80.
The Cougars return to action next Saturday at the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
