Charleston, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's track & field team returns to action after a one-week break on Saturday when they compete in the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon.
Several Cougars will be looking to improve their standing in the school record book, particularly in the distance races. Tess Masselink is entered in the 1500 and 5000 and ranks third and sixth, respectively, in those events in the Charleston outdoor record book.
Cate Ambrose is also running in the 1500 and is just .20 seconds behind Masselink at that distance. Tori Churchill will also be looking to move up from her current ranking of tenth in the 5000.
Leona Burton Rojas will be competing in two events in which she is already in the top 10 in school history, including the 200 (fifth) and long jump (second). Other Cougars who will be seeking PRs on the track include Maya Pringle (ninth in the 100), Jenny Martin (fourth in the 100 hurdles) and Kayla Ennis (sixth) and Brianna Lewis (ninth) in the 400 hurdles.
Chloe Christian looks to build on a school-record performance in the pole vault after posting a height of 3.65 meters (11-11 ¾) at the Rainbow Relays two weeks ago. Breanna Tatum joins Burton Rojas in the long jump and looks to move up from eighth in the record book. Stephanie Laudien is entered in the triple jump with a current rank of fourth.
Simone Harris leads the throwers into the meet with a top three ranking in all of her events including the school record in the discus, second in the hammer and third in the shot put. Brooklynn Barton has already established herself in the Charleston record book, ranking fifth in the discus and javelin and sixth in the shot.
Courtney Brooks is entered in the hammer (third) and discus (seventh), Nicole Lane and Jenny Martin bring their second and third rankings, respectively, in the javelin, while Lydia Bussey will be looking to build on a sixth-place standing in the hammer.
