Cougar Athletes to Compete in Meets at Duke and South Carolina

Charleston, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's track & field team concludes its regular season competition this weekend with athletes in action at the Duke Invitational and USC Open.
Several Cougars will be looking to build on strong showings last week at the Gamecock Invitational as the team heads into the CAA Championships on May 3-4 at Elon.
On the track, Kristen Cherry and Emma DeRoberts had PRs in both the 800 and 1500, and Cate Ambrose also turned in a solid performance in the 800, coming within 1.02 seconds of her career best time. Leona Burton Rojas just missed on a PR in the 100, crossing just .03 seconds shy.
Breanna Tatum had a PR in the 100 and is closing in on her best in the long jump, coming within .06m at the Gamecock Invitational. Stephanie Laudien was .02m shy of a PR in the triple jump, while Courtney Brooks (hammer) and Nicole Lane (javelin) had the third-longest throws of their careers.
In the most recent CAA performance list, Simone Harris is in the Top 12 in three events, ranking seventh in the discus, 10th in the shot put and 11th in the hammer. Jenny Martin also ranks among the leaders in the league in multiple events, standing eighth in the javelin and 12th in the 100 hurdles.
Lane (sixth) and Brooklynn Barton (11th) are also in the Top 12 in the javelin. Laudien and Chloe Christian are sixth in the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. Burton Rojas is ninth in the long jump as is Kayla Ennis in the 400 hurdles.
