Cougars Drop Doubleheader at James Madison

Harrisonburg, Va. – The College of Charleston was held to one run and five hits as CAA leader James Madison took both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 7-0 and 6-1 on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park.

Dexlie Inman had a single in the second for the only hit off Odicci Alexander in the first game. She also walked in the second when the Cougars (21-24, 5-9 CAA) loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to break through.

Savannah Huff also reached twice on walks. The Dukes (35-7, 13-1) scored a run in the second and added three more in the second on a two-run homer by Hannah File followed by a solo shot by Kate Gordon. Alexander struck out 10.

Charleston jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap when Inman walked and scored on a single by Jenna Helberg. But JMU struck back in the bottom of the frame on a two-run homer by Kierstin Roadcap and an RBI single by Gordon. The Dukes added three runs on four hits in the fifth.

Helberg had two of the Cougars' four hits off Megan Good, who finished with nine strikeouts.

The teams will conclude the series with a single game tomorrow at noon. The Cougars then play their final seven regular season games at Patriots Point beginning with a contest against Coastal Carolina on Tuesday at 5:00.
