Courtney Brooks Turns in Top Throws at Duke and South Carolina Events

Durham, N.C. and Columbia, S.C. – College of Charleston senior Courtney Brooks had two of the top performances of her career over the weekend to highlight the women's track & field team's showing at the Duke Invitational and USC Open.
Brooks threw the hammer 47.05 meters (154 feet, 4 inches) at Duke on Friday to set a PR and improve on her third-place standing in school history in the event. She then headed to South Carolina and had a top mark of 36.70m (120-5) in the discus, her best of the season and second longest of her career.
Brooks finished fourth in the discus while teammate Lydia Bussey was fifth with a season-best throw of 35.96m (117-11). Brooks also threw the hammer at South Carolina and finished eighth with a distance of 44.25m (145-2).
Jenny Martin had a season-best throw of 10.24m (33-7 ¼) in the shot put at the USC Open, and Breanna Tatum took seventh place in the long jump at 5.29m (17-4 ¼).
Cate Ambrose and Laurie Fogleman had strong showings in the 1500 at the Duke Invitational. Ambrose had a season-best time of 4:44.32, and Fogleman established a PR with a time of 5:17.71. Kristen Cherry finished 23rd of 67 runners in the 5000, crossing the finish line in 18:36.99.
Leona Burton Rojas rounded out the list of Cougars establishing season bests with a leap of 5.62m (18-5 ¼) in the long jump at Duke to take home a 10th-place finish.
The Cougars are off next weekend before heading to Elon for the CAA Championships on May 3-4.
