Cougars Head to Elon for CAA Track & Field Championships

Charleston, S.C. – A total of 18 College of Charleston women's track & field athletes will compete at the CAA Championships beginning Friday at Elon.
The group is headed by six throwers who all rank in the Top 10 in school history. Simone Harris holds the school record and is ranked eighth in the CAA in the discus while Brooklynn Barton, Courtney Brooks and Lydia Bussey are fifth, seventh and tenth, respectively, in the Charleston record book in the event.
Harris also ranks second in the hammer and third in the shot put in school history, Barton is fifth in the javelin and sixth in the shot put, Brooks is third in the hammer and Bussey is sixth in the hammer. Nicole Lane is second in the javelin, one spot ahead of Jenny Martin, and the duo are seeded sixth and ninth, respectively, in the conference.
Martin is also the school record holder in the heptathlon and is seeking to finish in the top three at the CAA Meet for the third time in her career.
Chloe Christian leads the jumpers as she enters the meet with a school record and a No. 6 seed in the pole vault. Leona Burton Rojas is second in Cougar history and ranked eighth in the CAA in the long jump and is also entered in the 100 meters, an event in which she stands eighth in the record book.
Stephanie Laudien is ranked sixth in the triple jump and has the seventh-longest mark this season in the CAA. Rounding out the jumpers is Breanna Tatum, who stands eighth in Cougar history in the long jump, Carlee Neel in the high jump and Aubree Boyle in the long jump.
Cate Ambrose leads the way on the track with Top 10 marks in the 1500 (fourth) and 5000 (seventh). Kayla Ennis is sixth in the record book in the 400 hurdles and seeded ninth in the CAA, while Brianna Lewis has the ninth-fastest 400 hurdle time in Charleston annals.
Maya Pringle is entered in the 100 and 200 and ranks ninth in the former event. Also competing on the track are Kristen Cherry in the 1500 and 5000 and Gianna Cucinotta in the 400.
