Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Summer Jenkins and
Drayton Siegling combined to allow only one run to a hard-hitting Coastal Carolina squad, but the Cougars could not dent the plate in a 1-0 loss to the Chanticleers on Tuesday at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (21-26) left runners in scoring position in three of the first four innings, including the fourth when
Dexlie Inman led off with her team-leading 13th double of the season.
Brittany Vicary singled in the fifth for the only other Charleston base hit but was thrown out trying to steal.
The Chanticleers (33-15) scored their lone run in the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Sydney Guess. Siegling entered following that base hit and worked 3.1 shutout innings the rest of the way. Jenkins gave up three hits and struck out two in her 3.2 innings in the circle.
The Cougars return to CAA play this weekend with a series against Delaware at Patriots Point. The teams play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 and a single game on Sunday, also at noon.
