BURLINGTON, N.C. – Along with winning its first tournament of the fall season, it was another record-breaking day as the No. 24-ranked College of Charleston women's golf team set a new 54-hole team record on Tuesday at the Elon Invitational held at the Alamance Country Club.
After going into the final round with a 21-stroke lead over runner-up Wofford, the Cougars captured the team title with an 11-under par 841 including back-to-back 67s from junior Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, S.C.), who earned individual medalist honors. The previous school record was a 6-under 858 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in 2018-19.
"The team had a special tournament," said CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell, who picked up his 28th career coaching victory at The College. "It was another great team effort."
Tindal captured her second career tournament win with rounds of 72, 67 and 67 to finish at 7-under par for the tournament. Last fall, she tied as co-individual medalist at the Boston College Intercollegiate.
It was the third-lowest 54-hole total by an individual player in program history behind Leigh Whittaker (205, -11) in 2010-11 and Laura Fuenfstueck (208, -8) in 2016-17.
"What a great tournament for Jodee," Futrell said. "She was rock solid all day. Finishing with a birdie on 18, the hardest hole on the golf course, shows you just how strong her will to win is."
Freshman Emily Dunlap (Greenville, S.C.) also turned in a career-best finish in just her second career start for Charleston. She tied for third in the 55-player field with a 3-under 210 with rounds of 72, 68 and 70.
The Cougars will look to use the momentum from the Elon Invitational into their next tournament outing at the Princess Anne Invitational hosted by Old Dominion on Oct. 4-6 at the Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Va.
