Siegling Blanks Furman in Doubleheader Split

Game 1 Box
Game 2 Box

Charleston, S.C. – Drayton Siegling allowed four hits in a 1-0 shutout of Furman in the first game before the Paladins rallied for an 11-9 victory and a split of Tuesday's twinbill at Patriots Point.

After escaping a bases loaded jam in the first, Siegling coasted to her second career solo shutout. The sophomore southpaw walked one and struck out three in lowering her season ERA to 1.93.

The Cougars scored the only run of the game in the fifth on consecutive doubles by Brittany Vicary and Noel Dominguez. Dominguez had five hits in the doubleheader, including three doubles, and drove in four runs.

Furman erased deficits of 4-0 and 8-4 to claim the nightcap. Dominguez had two more doubles and three RBI, and Alondra Vicary became the sixth Cougar to triple twice in a game while knocking in four runs.

Vicary tripled in two runs in the first, and Dexlie Inman homered in the second as Charleston built an early 4-0 lead. Furman tied it in the top of the fourth, but the Cougars struck right back with four in the bottom of the inning.

Dominguez doubled in two runs, Vicary tripled for the second time and Jenna Helberg had an RBI single, one of her three hits in the game. But a three-run homer by Tess Griswold in the fifth made it 8-7, and a four-run Paladin seventh spelled the difference.

The Cougars play five games in three days this weekend in the Holy City Showdown at Patriots Point, facing Campbell and Maine on Friday, Chattanooga and Maine on Saturday and Campbell again on Sunday.
