Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Chandler Sparkman struck out a career-high 12 in a 2-1 win over Chattanooga, and Yari Felix drove in three runs in a 5-0 shutout of Maine as the College of Charleston improved to 4-0 at the Holy City Showdown at Patriots Point.

The Cougars have won six of their last seven to even their mark at 9-9 and will look for a five-game tournament sweep tomorrow against Campbell.

Sparkman posted the highest strikeout total by a Cougar pitcher since Sam Martin fanned 14 against Savannah State on February 13, 2016. She allowed only four hits and emerged the winner when Felix's infield single with the bases loaded produced the decisive run in the bottom of the seventh.

Charleston trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth when Dexlie Inman tripled and scored on a grounder to second by pinch hitter Jenna Helberg.

Felix, who entered the day with just two RBI on the year, drove in runs with singles in the second and fourth and a ground out in the sixth in the win over Maine. Brittany Vicary added three hits and scored three runs.

The Cougars set a school record with nine stolen bases, topping the previous mark of seven set against Georgia Southern on March 22, 2017. Felix and Jenna Carter both swiped three bags, and Carter also had two against Chattanooga to give her a team-leading 10 on the year.

Meanwhile, Drayton Siegling continued her mastery in the circle with six shutout innings, allowing seven hits while striking out five. The sophomore lefty has given up only one earned run in her last 26.2 innings covering six appearances to lower her ERA to a sparkling 1.54.

Maine was able put its leadoff batter on with singles in five of the six innings, but Siegling was able to keep the Black Bears off the board, aiding by some outstanding defense including a 6-3-5-4 double play in the sixth.
