CHARLESTON, S.C. – Just three days ago, the College of Charleston women's golf team won the Briar's Creek Invitational by one stroke over No. 18-ranked Miami in a stacked field – the biggest tournament victory in program history.
Another elite field will challenge the Cougars once more with 11 of the 17 teams in this weekend's 49th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic – hosted by the University of Georgia on March 19-21 – ranked inside the Top 25. The UGA Golf Course will play at a distance of 6,302 yards in Athens, Ga.
The Classic is one of the oldest sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics. Approximately 28 of the golfers in this year's tournament field have been invited to play in the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
In its last outing, Charleston had three players turn in a Top 10 finish at the Briar's Creek Invitational including freshman Viktoria Hund (Bremen, Germany), who earned individual medalist honors and is the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Week.
