Knaffle will have four years of eligibility remaining
CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston Women's Golf head coach Jamie Futrell announced the signing of transfer Smith Knaffle on Monday. Knaffle comes to CofC from the University of South Carolina.
The Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina native spent two years with the Gamecocks. Knaffle will have a full four years of eligibility remaining due to COVID-19 and redshirt rules.
"We are excited to have Smith join our team," Futrell said. "She had a great junior career and we are adding an experienced, competitive player to our team. Smith has the potential to be an outstanding collegiate player."
While at St. James High School, Knaffle was a two-time individual champion at the South Carolina High School 4A State Championship. She was also a six-time all-state honoree including being named 2017 4A State Player of the Year. Knaffle steered St. James to three team state championships, earning Toast of the Coast Player of the Year recognition four times.
Knaffle played in three events during her freshman year at South Carolina in 2019-20. She shot a career-best 72 twice in her nine rounds played for the Gamecocks. The 72's came at the Lady Tarheel Invitational and the Landfall Tradition, respectively.
Knaffle is a standout citizen and student off the course. After the 2019-20 campaign, she was named both a WGCA All-American Scholar and an SEC Community Service Team honoree.
Knaffle is one of four newcomers to the women's golf program for 2021-22. She joins fellow incoming freshmen Bella Britt, Emma Schimpf and Mary Kathryn Talledo.
