
Ritchie's Golden Goal Lifts Cougars Over Furman

Kane Ritchie scored two goals, including his second game-winning goal of the season, to give Charleston the 2-1 victory

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston men's soccer team (3-4-2, 0-3) knocked off Furman (2-6, 1-1) in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night at Patriots Point.
The Cougars got on the board first , striking in the 17th minute of the match, as sophomore Kane Ritchie scored off an assist from senior Rio Murray. The goal would be the only score of the first half as the Cougars went into the half leading 1-0.
The 1-0 advantage held for CofC until midway through the second period, as Furman scored the equalizer in the 71st minute. Neither team could break through for the remainder of regulation, so the match went to extra time knotted up 1-1. It would be the fourth Charleston match to enter extra time this season.
In the 95th minute, Kane Ritchie delivered heroics once again. For the second time this season, Ritchie scored a golden goal to win a match for the Cougars.
In the season opener at South Carolina, Ritchie delivered the game-winner in extra time to win 1-0. On Wednesday night, Jake Nicholson fed Ritchie, and the sophomore from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania found the back of the net to end the match. The Cougars defended Ralph Lundy Field and grabbed the 2-1 win.
Ritchie picked up his third and fourth goals of the season, while Nicholson notched his fourth assist.
