Cougars Fall on the Road to Northeastern, 81-70

Junior guard Jenna Annecchiarico scored her 1,000th career point

BOSTON, Mass. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball team (10-8, 2-5) lost just its second road game of the season on Wednesday night, falling 81-70 at Northeastern.

Jenna Annecchiarico scored her 1,000th career point in the game. The junior guard accomplished the feat in 97 career games.

First Half

  • Charleston got out to an early 6-5 advantage, but back-to-back threes from Northeastern gave the home team an 11-6 lead
  • The Cougars would use a 9-3 spurt to grab a 15-14 lead with 2:30 to play in the first period
  • Northeastern ended the period on an 8-2 run to carry a 22-17 lead into the second quarter
  • The Huskies opened the second quarter on a 13-0 run to extend its lead to 37-17
  • Charleston would score five straight points, but the Huskies ended the half on back-to-back triples
  • At the break, CofC trailed Northeastern 43-25
  • Annecchiarico led the Cougars with 10 points in the first half

Second Half

  • The Cougars scored the first four points of the half, but Northeastern responded by making five of its next seven field goals to push its lead to 53-34 with 4:09 left in the third 
  • The Cougars would trim the deficit to 13 as Northeastern carried a 60-47 advantage into the fourth quarter
  • Annecchiarico scored nine third quarter points to help cut into the Huskies' lead
  • CofC trimmed the margin down to just 10 points early in the fourth quarter
  • The Huskies would stretch it back out, holding on to a 72-56 lead with 5:00 left in the game
  • Northeastern would keep the Cougars at bay for the remainder of the game, claiming the 81-70 win

  • The Cougars shot 16-of-18 from the foul line, shooting above 80 percent from the stripe as a team for a fourth straight game
  • Northeastern outrebounded the Cougars 43-27
  • Charleston outscored the Huskies by seven in the second half, but the 18-point halftime deficit proved to be too large to overcome

  • Jenna Annecchiarico supplemented her milestone night with a complete performance, scoring 32 points, grabbing five boards, dishing out four assists and recording three steals
  • Arynn Eady recorded her seventh double-double of the season, dropping 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four blocks and three steals
  • Tyler Collins added ten points
