
Women's Basketball Selected as Preseason CAA Runner-Ups

RICHMOND, Va. – The College of Charleston women's basketball was picked to finish second in the Colonial Athletic Association, as announced by the league as part of its women's basketball media day on Thursday morning.
The Cougars received 12 5points and one first-place vote from the league's head coaches. CofC finished last season with a 9-9 conference record before being eliminated in the CAA Tournament Semifinals.
Drexel was picked to finish first with 142 points and ten first-place votes. Towson received the remaining two first-place votes in fifth. The is the highest preseason ranking the Cougars' have received since joining the CAA.
Senior Jenna Annecchiarico was named to the Preseason All-CAA First Team. The 2022 All-CAA Second Team selection had breakout season during her first year with the Cougars, setting new program records in total points in a single game (36) and total free throws made in a single game (18). She averaged 16.6 points per game with 6.3 assists per game. On Monday, she was named one of 20 watch list members for the 2023 Nancy Lieberman Award.
Junior Anika McGarity earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention accolades. The multidimensional player started 26 contests for the Cougars in 2021-22, averaging 11.3 points per game.
CofC begins the 2022-23 season on Nov. 7 against Meredith at TD Arena.
