CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston head men's basketball coach Pat Kelsey announces the signing of James Scott, a consensus three-star recruit by 247sports and Big Shots National Scouting.
"James reminds me of a young Marcus Camby. I know I said this about Mayar, but he is still growing too. He is a legit 6-11 right now and he just turned 17," said Kelsey. "He has very good hands, touch and skill. He moves and runs extremely well. He is a major lob threat, blocks shots, and effects the game in many ways."
Scott is currently ranked as the top center and eighth overall player in the state of North Carolina by Phenom Hoop Report and was voted Most Improved Player by the Fayetteville Observer after the 2021-22 season.
"James Scott is the kind of kid you look back in two, three years from now and say 'How did he end up there?' He is that good of a player," said Kevin Schneider, Big Shots National Recruiting director. "The job Pat Kelsey and his staff did in identifying, evaluating, and securing a commitment from one of the best big men in the country should have Cougar fans lined up down King Street for years to come."
The 6-11 big held offers from Georgia State, Appalachian State, Loyola Chicago and many other prior to his commitment to the Cougars.
Scott joins Mayar Wol and Isaiah Coleman in the Cougars' 2023 recruiting class, the 40th in the country by 247sports while also being the highest ranked mid-major recruiting class in the country.
