
Cougars See Winning Streak Snapped at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, GA. – College of Charleston shot 56 percent and scored 22 points in the first quarter but struggled the rest of the way in an 83-65 loss at Georgia Southern on Friday night.
Jaila Roberts scored 20 points to pace the Cougars, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. The Eagles won for the sixth straight time to improve to 8-1.
Alexis Andrews added 16 points, and Anika McGarity scored 11 to give Charleston (5-4) three players in double figures. Nicole Hemphill, making her first start of the season, had nine points and set a career-high with 10 rebounds.
The Cougars travel to Eugene, Ore., tomorrow ahead of a Sunday game against No. 16 Oregon. Game time is 3 p.m. (ET).

- A layup and 3-pointer by Andrews capped a 13-4 run that gave the Cougars a 35-30 lead before settling for a 37-36 lead at halftime.
- Andrews scored 10 points, and Hemphill and Roberts both had nine in the first half.
- Roberts added nine more points in the third quarter, including two free throws that gave the Cougars a 50-49 lead late in the period.
- The Eagles responded with an 8-2 run over the final 2:44 of the period for a 57-52 lead through three.
