CHARLESTON, S.C. – Carli McCants lost her second 1-0 game of the Charleston Invitational, this time against Binghamton, and the Cougars also lost to Holy Cross, 4-0, on Saturday at Patriots Point.
McCants struck out six Bearcats in her third complete game in four starts this season and lowered her ERA to 1.33. The Cougars had three doubles, including leadoff two-base hits by
Jenna Carter in the third and
Chloe Valdez in the fifth, but were unable to break through.Â
Charleston was also limited to three hits in the loss to the Crusaders, with
Camden Carter producing the Cougars' fourth double of the day.
Payton Lemire went the distance, allowing only one earned run while fanning four.
Jenna Helberg had a double against Binghamton and a single against Holy Cross. The senior catcher has hit safely in seven of nine games this season including five in a row.
The Cougars wrap up play in the first of two consecutive home tournaments with a rematch against Holy Cross on Sunday at 12:30.
