Towson Pulls Away From Charleston in Second Half

TOWSON, Md. -- The College of Charleston (14-11, 6-8) was unable to overcome shooting struggles in an 84-57 loss at Towson on Sunday afternoon. 

The Cougars trailed by just four at halftime, but a 48 point second half from Towson - including a 16-0 game-ending run - allowed the Tigers to pull away from CofC. 

First Half

  • Charleston opened up an early 6-4 lead, but Towson gained a 12-8 edge on an 8-2 spurt following a couple of triples. The Tigers and Cougars both opened the game 4-of-12 from the field
  • The Cougars reeled off a 9-0 run to lead 17-12 with two minutes left in the first quarter
  • Towson made its last three field goals of the period, but a Grace Abercrombie bucket in the final seconds of the quarter ended a 7-1 Tigers run
  • After the first quarter, the Cougars held a 20-19 lead
  • Latrice Perkins led the Cougars with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting in the first 10 minutes of action
  • CofC and Towson went back-and-forth for much of the second quarter. The Tigers led 28-23 before a 7-0 run gave CofC a 30-28 edge with 4:43 to go
  • Towson finished the half on an 8-2 run to take a 36-32 lead into the half
  • The Cougars trailed by just four at the half despite making just one of its last nine field goals and shooting 11 percent (2-of-16) from beyond-the arc
  • Latrice Perkins scored 13 points in the first half, while Arynn Eady added eight points and six boards

Second Half

  • The Cougars cut Towson's advantage down to 40-38, but a 6-0 surge by the Tigers forced a CofC timeout as Towson led 46-38 - its largest lead to that point - with 7:00 to go in the third quarter
  • Towson extended its run to 11-0 before a layup by Jenna Annecchiarico ended it. At the third quarter media timeout, the Cougars trailed 51-40
  • The Cougars responded with six straight points to pull within five, with Towson leading 51-46
  • After three, the Tigers led 59-51
  • Latrice Perkins had scored 20 points through three quarters, while Arynn Eady had totaled 12 points and 12 boards
  • Out of the third quarter break, Towson extended its lead to 65-53 with 7:57 to go
  • Towson would extend its lead to 15 with just over five minutes remaining
  • The Tigers' defense clamped down on the Cougars to end the game as Towson pulled away for an 84-57 win

  • CofC had 19 offensive rebounds, its second most in a CAA game this season
  • Charleston shot a season-low 27.8 percent from the floor

  • Arynn Eady picked up her fifth double-double in the last eight games with 14 points and 12 rebounds on the day. Eady now has 11 double-doubles on the season
