Notes and Nuggets
- The College of Charleston Cougars look to finish a four-game road trip strong with wins at Hofstra and UNCW - starting in Hempstead on Wednesday night
- The Cougars enter action following a loss to the Towson Tigers. Charleston was down just four points at Towson last Sunday, but ran out of gas down the stretch as the Tigers used a 48-point second half to pull away
- The Cougars are 6-8 in league play, but have three games against the bottom two teams in the league remaining (Hofstra, UNCW)
- This is a homecoming game for CofC point guard Jenna Annecchiarico. Annecchiarico attended Baldwin High School on Long Island, which sits less than four miles from Hofstra University. Jenna leads the Cougars in scoring, assists, steals, and free throw percentage.
- Annecchiarico is one of just five players in the country to average more than 15 points per game, 4.5 assists per game, and 2.5 steals per game. One of the other four players is UConn's Paige Bueckers - who was named the 2021 Naismith Women's Player of the Year last season
- Annecchiarico's 6.0 assists per game leads the CAA and ranks 11th in the NCAA. That assists average would be the second best in Charleston's division one history if the season ended today
- Other than Annecchiarico and Anika McGarity, the Cougars are led by its senior class. Arynn Eady is one of those seniors lighting it up in her final season. Eady notched her 11th double- double at Towson on Sunday - also her fifth double-double in the last eight games
- The senior forward from Atlanta is on pace to shatter CofC's D1 era single-season record for field goal percentage. Eady's FG% of 60.5 percent - which leads the CAA and ranks 7th nationally - would break the current record of 57.6 percent. Her 9.3 rebounds per game would also represent the second best season average in The College's division one era. Eady also leads the CAA with 2.1 blocks per contest
- Seniors Latrice Perkins and Madison Taylor continue to spark the Cougars as well. At Towson, Perkins scored 22 points, her third game of 20-plus in CofC's last seven outings. Taylor has started the last seven games, with the Cougars posting a 4-3 mark in that span
- Last but not least is senior Tyler Collins, sits at 991 points for her career and is poised to become the second Cougar to reach the 1K mileston this season. Collins is averaging 8.5 points per game in her final season in a Charleston uniform
- Turnovers and three-point shooting continue to be a key trend for CofC. This season, the Cougars are 8-2 when shooting more than 30 percent from beyond-the-arc. When CofC shoots less than 30 percent, it is 5-9
- Charleston is 12-6 this season when it forces its opponent into more than 15 turnovers. When Charleston's opponent keeps its turnovers underneath that threshold of 15, the Cougars are just 1-5
- Hofstra sits just above UNCW at the bottom of the CAA standings with a 5-16 (2-11) record this season
- The Pride have lost four straight games
- Despite just five wins this season, four of those have come at home. Hofstra is 4-5 at home and 1-11 on the road
- Hofstra owns an 8-7 lead in the all-time series
- Charleston has won two straight games over the Pride, both during the 2019-20 season
- Wednesday's game serves as a makeup of a game that was postponed due to COVID-19
