Charleston Splits With Florida Gulf Coast, Morehead State Sunday

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The duos of Maria Zweig and Emma Falk, and Gabi Bailey and Kyra Thompson each went 2-0 to lead the College of Charleston beach volleyball team to a Sunday split with Florida Gulf Coast and Morehead State to conclude the CofC Classic at Creekside Tennis & Swim Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the morning session, the Cougars split at four's and five's with Florida Gulf Coast to head into the second wave even at 1-1. The teams traded straight-set sweeps at one's and three's before the Eagles held on for a three-set decision in the second flight to secure the 3-2 victory. Charleston bounced back in the final match of the weekend, winning the first four flights against Morehead State to earn a Sunday split and defeat the Eagles, 4-1.
 
PAIR OF THE DAY
Zweig and Falk maintained their perfect record as a pair with back-to-back 2-0 wins to stand at 9-0 on the season. The duo opened the day securing one of the Cougars' two points against Florida Gulf Coast with a 21-13, 21-18 decision at three's before clinching the dual victory against Morehead State with a hard-fought 22-20, 21-13 win.

  • Thompson and Bailey pushed their win streak to 10 matches and dropped their first set since an opening weekend contest against South Carolina.
  • Amani Dunston and Ella Reames have won six of their last seven including a gritty 21-19, 25-23 decision against Morehead State's two's.
  • Mikaela Dougherty and Tynley Smeltzer partnered for their first victory of the season at five's with a 21-14, 22-20 decision against Morehead State.
  • The Cougars saw their seven-match win streak come to an end in the first match of the day.
