East Carolina Takes Both Ends of Doubleheader from Cougars

CHARLESTON, S.C. – East Carolina swept a doubleheader from the College of Charleston by identical 5-0 scores on Sunday at Patriots Point.

The Cougars outhit the Pirates, 6-4, and drew seven walks in the first game but stranded all 13 runners including leaving the bases loaded twice. Mia Dittoe had two hits, Shealyn Starks contributed a double and Jenna Carter drew three walks.

Payton Lemire surrendered only one earned run and struck out three in a complete game effort. Madisyn Davis and Logyn Estes combined on the shutout for East Carolina.

Natalie Windham and Jenna Helberg singled to start the bottom of the first in the second game, but Pirate pitcher Taylor Smith did not allow a baserunner the rest of the way. Windham's hit was her second of the day after a pinch-hit single in the first game.

The Cougars play a doubleheader at Coastal Carolina on Wednesday before opening CAA play next weekend at home against Drexel.
