MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team (14-6, 3-0) faced its most difficult test of the season on Saturday morning, hosting #27 Georgia Tech at the CofC Tennis Center. Charleston entered the day winners of ten straight matches. It was the longest winning streak for the program since the 2008 season.
The streak would not reach 11, as the ACC power left Patriots Point with a 5-0 win over the Cougars.
How It Happened
Georgia Tech trotted out two top-25 duos, with its first and second doubles pairings ranked 9th and 21st in the nation, respectively. The Yellow Jackets got off to a fast start, winning 6-0 on court two. Georgia Tech finished up doubles with a 6-1 victory on court three. The match on court one was 4-2 in favor of the Yellow Jackets when the doubles point was awarded to Tech and the match went unfinished.
In singles, the Yellow Jackets kept their momentum going. Georgia Tech won the first set in all six matches, and picked up victories on courts five and six to grab a 3-0 lead.
Georgia Tech clinched the match with a win on court three, then also finished on court four to grab the 5-0 victory. With the Yellow Jackets scheduled to play at Charleston Southern later on Saturday, the other two singles matches did not finish.
