CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team (14-6, 3-0) will look to build on its 3-0 conference start when it hosts Delaware (13-3, 1-0) on Tuesday afternoon in Mount Pleasant. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. at the CofC Tennis Center.
The Cougars entered play on Satuday riding a 10-match winning streak. That streak was ended by #27 Georgia Tech in a 5-0 loss for CofC at the hands of the Yellow Jackets. Charleston is now 1-1 this season against opponents from major conferences. The Cougars took down Indiana on March 18.
CofC will look to start another winning streak on Tuesday, as well as attempt to remain perfect in league play. The Cougars have tied the best start to CAA play since 2013, the program's first year in the conference. Charleston has not opened a conference slate 4-0 since the 2012 squad reeled off seven consecutive victories to open Southern Conference action.
The Cougars' recently snapped 10-match winning streak was the program's longest since 2008.
Fresh off a CAA Player of the Week award, Slade Coetzee battled with #54 Carol Lee on Saturday, losing the first set 5-7 but leading the second set 1-0 at time of stoppage. Coetzee has proven she can go toe-to-toe with some of the best players in the nation, recently defeating #81 ranked Mila Saric in the win over William & Mary on March 19. Coetzee is 16-1 in singles play this season.
Halli Trinkle - who is 16-2 in singles competition this year - also put up a fight vs. #84 Kylie Bilchev. Trinkle is 15-1 in her last 16 matches.
Maja Jekauc and Elizabeth Nowak have proven to be formidable in the third and fifth positions. Jekauc is 12-5 in her first collegiate season, while Nowak is 10-4 in singles play. The pair have also been excellent in doubles, amassing a 9-4 record. In their last ten doubles matches together, Jekauc and Nowak are 8-2.
