NASHVILLE, TENN. – College of Charleston continued a heartbreaking run in Nashville, losing to Southeast Missouri State, 3-2, and host Lipscomb, 6-5 in eight innings, on the second day of the Purple & Gold Challenge.
Three of the Cougars' four losses this weekend have been by one run and three have come in extra innings. Charleston will look to get in the win column on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game against Dayton.
The Cougars build a 4-0 lead in Saturday's game against Lipscomb, scoring three times in the first on an RBI single by
Jenna Helberg, a sacrifice fly from
Mia Dittoe and a bases loaded walk to
Aniz Roman.
Dittoe added a solo homer in the third, the second of her career, but the Bisons put together six hits and scored five times in the bottom of the frame. Charleston tied it in the sixth when Roman walked and came around on a ground out by
Jenna Carter before Lipscomb finished it off with a run in the eighth.
Carli McCants went 4.1 innings in relief of starter
Drayton Siegling and allowed six hits and one unearned run.
Earlier in the day, the Cougars trailed SEMO, 3-0, after four before scoring twice in the fifth. Dittoe doubled and
Kayla Gutierrez singled to lead off the frame. Dittoe scored on an error and another run came across on a squeeze bunt by
Noel Dominguez.
The Cougars got the potential tying run on base to start the seventh but were unable to force extra innings. Starter
McKenna Kelly allowed three hits in five innings.
