ELON, N.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team's (19-7) run of undefeated conference play came to an end on Saturday, as the Cougars fell 4-3 to tournament host Elon. The Phoenix continued its dominance at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, improving to 14-1 on their home courts. The Cougars finished the season an impressive 7-1 in CAA action. 

The host team got off to a strong start, claiming the doubles point after three very competitive matches. The Phoenix won on court two first, followed by a 6-3 win on court one by Coetzee and Trinkle of the Cougars. Elon finished it off on court three with a 7-5 victory to take a 1-0 advantage into singles competition.

The Cougars grabbed the momentum when it took a 2-1 lead behind victories from Elizabeth Nowak and Halli Trinkle. Nowak won 6-1, 6-3 on court five, while Trinkle prevailed 6-1, 6-1 on court two. An Elon victory on court one tied the score at 2-2. Halli Trinkle improved her excellent singles record to 21-3 on the season, including winning her last five matches and eight of her last nine.

Maja Jekauc was dominant on court three, winning 6-1, 6-3. Jekauc's win pushed the CofC lead to 3-2 with two matches remaining. The freshman from Germany concluded an excellent rookie campaign, posting a 16-5 singles mark.

Each match, court four and six, went to the third set. On court six, the Cougars and Phoenix went into a tiebreak after being notched at 6-6. Elon would claim victory after a 7-3 tiebreak score went in favor of the Phoenix. With the score knotted up at 3-3, the match came down to court four. Elon would rally to a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win to clinch the match and eliminate the Cougars from CAA Championship play.
