CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's basketball program signed transfer Nicole Hemphill, head coach Robin Harmony announced on Tuesday.
After beginning her career at Little Rock, Hemphill spent the last two seasons at Lipscomb. After sitting out the 2020-21 season due to transfer rules, Nicole played in 25 games and made one start in the 2021-22 campaign. Hemphill produced averages of 8.6 minutes, 2.2 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
In her freshman season at Little Rock, she appeared in 16 games with six starts before being sidelined with a season-ending injury. Hemphill averaged 3.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, while setting a program record with a 90 percent clip at the charity stripe. In a game with LSU, the 6-foot forward earned her career first start at the college level. Hemphill scored 13 points and added a pair of blocks in 37 minutes of action. In a conference matchup versus UT-Arlington, she dropped ten points and pulled down a season-high nine rebounds.
"Nicole is an athletic forward that can play multiple positions," head Coach Robin Harmony said. "She has a great motor and can rebound out of her area. She is a skilled, face-up big that can shoot out to 18 feet."
Hemphill is a native of San Antonio, Texas, joining fellow San Antonians Anika McGarity and Bria McClure. A decorated star at O'Connor High School, Hemphill is the school's second all-time leading scorer and was named the O'Connor's 2019 Athlete of the Year. In her prep years, Hemphill earned All-District honors four times, All-Region distinction twice, and was the 2017-18 District MVP. As a senior, Hemphill was named as a McDonald's All-American nominee.
