Van Wyk, Ruiter Leading Cougs After Round One at National Championships

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. – The College of Charleston Men's Golf team completed round one of action at the 2022 NCAA National Championships on Friday. Making their second-ever appearance in program history, the Cougars entered the National Championships seeded 30th out of the final 30 teams remaining in Division I.
Following round one, CofC is in 29th after firing a 25-over par 305 on Friday at the Par-70 Raptor Course at Grayhawk Golf Club. Freshman Kieron van Wyk leads the Cougars at T-62 individually after firing a 4-over par 74 in Round One. Van Wyk sunk two birdies over the final five holes and shot a 36 after making the turn.
Freshman Nevill Ruiter is just behind van Wyk at 5-over par, draining 13 pars in the opening round. He is T-82 to give CofC two Cougars in the Top 100.
Sophomore Zach Reuland is T-121, Ty Sullivan is T-143 and Jack Parrott is T-155. Reuland collected 12 pars en route to the 7-over par round. Sullivan's 9-over par was paced by a solid first nine holes in which he shot a 36 with eight pars and one bogey.
