STONY BROOK, N.Y. –Jaila Roberts scored a game-high 23 points for College of Charleston's women's basketball team where Stony Brook took the win by a score of 80-76 in Stony Brook on Thursday night.
The Cougars dropped to 8-10, with a CAA record of 3-5. Stony Brook moved to 12-7, with a CAA record of 6-2.
The next closest in scoring to Roberts was
Jada Logan with 22 points and
Anika McGarity with 15 points.
Anastasia Warren led Stony Brook with 24 points and following close behind her was Gigi Gonzalez with 22.
Charleston will finish their road trip at North Carolina A&T on Sunday, January 26, to close out the month of January.
How it Happened
- Charleston and Stony Brook were back and forth where the score read 4-3 for the first two minutes of play until Stony Brook took way with an 8-0 run, putting the Seawolves ahead 11-4. McGarity dropped a three to even the score at 13 with just over three minutes left in the first. Then, the two teams went head-to-head for the remainder of the quarter, but Stony Brook edged the Cougars by a score of 17-15.
- Roberts dropped 15 points for the College of Charleston in the second quarter, which gave Charleston some cushion. However, Stony Brook brought the score even at 33 with just under four minutes left in the second quarter. After which both teams were back and forth, which led to the score Charleston was ahead 40-37 at the end of the first half.
- The Seawolves and Cougars again battled head-to-head in the third quarter, at 5:58 Stony Brook made it even at 49. College of Charleston broke away with a 10-2 run over Stony Brook, where the score read 59-51 with three and a half minutes left in the third. The Seawolves chipped away at the Cougars' lead to bring them to 63 with 1:13 left in the third. Charleston pulls away by one with a pair of free throws by Marissa Brown to end the third where the score read 64-63.
- The two teams continued the saga of head-to-head competition with 6:42 left in the fourth the score was even at 70. The Seawolves snuck ahead with a few free throws to bring them up by four with just under three minutes in the fourth. Charleston's points mainly came from free throws, but Stony Brook went five-for-five from the field, where Stony Brook came out on top 80-76.

- Roberts dropped her third double-digit game in a row with 11 points against Monmouth, and 15 against William & Mary.
- McGarity has reached double figures in 12 of her last 13 games, joining her Logan has scored double figures in 16 of her last 18.
- The Cougars have a brief two-game stretch after their trip to NC A&T to face UNCW (Feb. 3) and Elon (Feb. 5).
