BOONE, N.C. – The College of Charleston women's basketball team fell to the Appalachian State Mountaineers 77-73 on Tuesday night.
The Cougars were led by Jenna Annecchiarico with 20 points and four steals. Anika McGarity and Alexis Andrews also scored in double digits with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Cougars started the contest with a dry spell, downing only six of 15 shots in the first quarter. McGarity made the lone three as the Cougars trailed by 13.
Charleston found a spark heading into halftime, outscoring the Mountaineers 18-11 in the second quarter. Propelled by 10 points from Annecchiarico, the Cougars trailed by only six by half.
The third quarter performance ending up being the downfall of the Cougars, with the Mountaineers outscoring Charleston 29-19.
Finding life in the fourth quarter, the Cougars cut the deficit to just three after a bucket beyond the arc and a foul on the three-point line gave Annecchiarico six more points.
Failing to convert from the paint, the Cougars had no points on two possessions to end the contest.
