
Cougars Head Back to Virginia for CAA Indoor Championships

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston makes its second trip to the Old Dominion this winter for the inaugural CAA Indoor Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Sprints
Kaitlynn Bailey and Alicia Wilson will compete in the 60 and 200 meter dashes, and Kirsten McKenna is entered in the 200 and 400.
Bailey enters the meet ranked in the top 10 in school history in both of her events, ranking third in both the 60 (7.92) and 200 (25.96). Although Wilson is not in the record book in either event, she did she PRs at both distances (8.24 in the 60 and 27.19 in the 200) at the same venue in January.
Distance/Mid-Distance
Several Cougars who appear in the record book will run the middle and longer distance races, a group that includes Emily Dorony and Meike Kalus in the 800, Rhian Purves in the mile, Sophia Brown in the 3000 and Cayden Crismon in the 3000 and 5000.
Dorony stands fourth in the 800 (2:17.29) and Kalus is two spots back in sixth (2:18.61). Purves has the third-fastest mile in school history (5:00.66), and Crismon is fourth in the 5000 (17:42.20). Brown is seventh in the 5000 (17:58.45) but will not be running that distance.
Field Events
Two of the top three indoor pole vaulters in Cougar history will be in action on Wednesday. Luzy Lieger holds the top spot, breaking her own school record with a mark of 3.90m (12'9 ½") at the South Carolina Invitational earlier this month, and Tonet Tallie jumped to third (3.60m, 11'9 ¾") at the same meet.
Emma Fortuna is competing in the high jump and has a top season mark of 1.50m (4'11") to stand just outside the top 10. Abby Fush is entered in the long jump.
Pentathlon
Emily Kreek and Avery Jackson will be in the five-event pentathlon on Wednesday. The pentathlon consists of the 800, 60 hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put.
Kreek has been enjoying an outstanding freshman season, ranking seventh in school history in the 60 hurdles (9.25) and ninth in the long jump (5.29m, 17'4 ¼").
