VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Luzy Lieger added to her list of career accomplishments Wednesday when the senior claimed the pole vault title at the inaugural CAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach.
Lieger posted a top mark of 3.80m (12'5 ½") to become the first Cougar to win a CAA individual event since Julisa Tindall won the high jump in 2016. Lieger is also the first Charleston athlete to ever win the pole vault at a conference meet.
After securing the championship, Lieger attempted a vault of 3.92m (12'10 ¼") to break her own school indoor record but was unable to convert at that height.
Tonet Tallie joined Lieger as a scorer in the pole vault, tying for fourth and tying her PR at 3.60m (11'9 ¾"). That mark has Tallie tied for third in the Cougar record book.
Emily Kreek also scored with an eighth-place finish in the pentathlon, tallying 3100 points for the fifth-highest total in school history. Kreek's best event was the 60 hurdles with her time of 9.35 garnering 838 points. She also finished seventh in the pentathlon 800 in 2:32.78 to score 658 points.
The distance medley relay team of Shannon Smith, Kaitlynn Bailey, Andie Harding and Rhian Purves ran 12:18.20 for the fourth-fastest time in Cougar annals and a sixth-place finish.
Alicia Wilson entered the record book in two events, checking in at No. 10 in both the 60 (8.11) and 200 (26.72), and Kirsten McKenna's time of 1:00.60 in the 400 also places her tenth. Bailey added a PR in the 200 (25.93) and was just .01 shy of her career best in the 60 (7.93). Cayden Crismon fell just 1.4 seconds off her PR with a time of 17:43.60 in the 5000.
