Women's Basketball Falls to Elon

CHARLESTON, S.C. –The College of Charleston's women's basketball team fell to Elon 62-49 at TD Arena on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Cougars moved to 9-12, with a CAA record of 4-7.  Elon moved to 5-16, with a CAA record of 3-9.
 
Jaila Roberts led the Cougars with 17 points, and Jada Logan followed behind her with 12 points.
 
Lenaejha Evans led the Phoenix with 20 points, and Ajia James followed behind with 12 points.
 
College of Charleston will head north to face Drexel (Feb. 10) and Delaware (Feb. 12).
 
 
How it Happened
  • Charleston and Elon broke even 9-9 at just under five minutes. The Cougars and Phoenix defense dictated down the stretch as Charleston held an 11-10 advantage to end the first.  
  • Elon went on a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter, but Charleston answered with an 8-2 run of their own to bring the teams even at 23-23 with just under two minutes left. Elon scored the final four points to end the second quarter at 27-23.
  • After a third quarter of head-to-head competition, the Phoenix edged the Cougars 41-40 to end the third.
  • Elon went on a 12-2 run over Charleston with just over a minute left in the fourth, which deemed a challenge for the Cougars to come back from.
Game Notes
  • Roberts has led the Cougars in scoring for the fourth game in a row with 23 versus North Carolina A&T and Stony Brook, and 24 versus UNCW.
  • Roberts has had six games in a row with double-figures, after getting a double-double on Friday night with 24 points and 12 rebounds versus UNCW.
  • Charleston will be back home on February 17 to face Stony Brook.
