INDIANAPOLIS (USBWA) – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has named Pat Kelsey to District III Coach of the Year as on Tuesday based on voting from its national membership. The USBWA has selected All-District teams since the 1956-57 season, its founding year.
For each of the nine geographic districts, ten players are selected as well as a player and coach of the year.
Kelsey had led the Cougars to the most wins in the country thus far with a 31-3 record and a CAA title. The Cougars won twenty-straight contests on their way to an automatic bid to March Madness. Charleston won the 2022 Charleston Classic and spent four week's ranked in the AP Top 25 poll, peaking at No. 18. Boasting a solidified ten-man rotation, the Cougars are also the only team in the CAA to have had three players recognized as the CAA Player of the Week (Ryan Larson, Dalton Bolon, Pat Robinson III).
No. 12 Charleston will face No. 5 San Diego in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in Orlando on Thursday. Action is set for 3:10 p.m.
