CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston volleyball team returns home to the friendly confines of TD Arena this weekend to host its lone tournament to open the 2023 season. Davidson, Le Moyne and West Virginia come calling for the two-day, season-opening event.
The Cougars will take on Davidson on Friday at 7:00 pm followed by matchups with Le Moyne and West Virginia on Saturday at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm, respectively.

QUICK HITTERS
- The Cougars open the 2023 season at home with the CofC Classic for a seventh-straight fall season dating back to 2016.
- Charleston takes on three foes for the first time in program history this fall including Le Moyne Saturday morning, who makes their Division I debut inside TD Arena. The Cougars also take on George Washington and Arkansas for the first time before CAA play kicks into gear.
- Charleston hosts West Virginia this weekend and takes on Arkansas in two weeks as the lone two Power 5 programs on the regular season docket. The Cougars have 25 wins over power conference opponents since 1989 and head coach Jason Kepner has led them to 14 of those wins – four coming in the postseason over Miami (Fla.), St. John's, Clemson and Georgia Tech.
- West Virginia is the second Big XII opponent in as many seasons for the Cougars after last season's meeting with Texas Tech. Charleston owns four wins over current Big XII members Baylor (2), Cincinnati (1) and Houston (1).
- Lexi Wierzbicki enters the weekend just 23 kills shy of 1000 in her collegiate career and was named to the Preseason All-CAA Team for a second-straight season.
- Charleston was picked fourth in the annual Coaches' Poll behind Towson, Hofstra and Delaware. The Cougars return part of their attack that finished second in the CAA last season with 1789.5 points and hit .215 overall while blocking 2.34 attempts per set.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- Davidson looks to carry momentum into 2023 after a run to the NIVC Semifinals last season posting a 23-11 record, 14-4 in A-10 play. The Wildcats, led by Chris Willis, return their top three hitters from last year's record-setting roster – Jackie Bardin (2.50 kills/set), Emma Slusser (2.46 kills/set) and Isabel Decker (2.84 kills/set). Davidson finished second in the A10 last season behind regular season and tournament champion Loyola Chicago, and was picked to finish third in the 2023 A10 Preseason Poll.
- Le Moyne enters their first season of Division I competition moving from the NE10 (Division II) to NEC. The Dolphins also brought Susan Kim on board as head coach to lead the transition up after the Dolphins posted a 7-16 mark last year and 3-9 in conference play. Le Moyne returns four of their top seven hitters last season led by Emily La Ruffa's 1.45 kills/set.
- West Virginia enters season No. 9 under the direction of head coach Reed Sunahara in 2023. The Mountaineers posted a 7-22 overall record and went 0-16 in the Big XII last season. Bailey Miller leads all returners after a rookie campaign in which she put down 293 kills (2.76/set), had 328.5 points (3.10/set), had 20 service aces, 26 blocks and 223 digs (2.10/set). The Mountaineers are a young team with just four upperclassmen and 13 freshmen or sophomores including Miller.

- Admission is free of charge for all College of Charleston volleyball matches at TD Arena.
- Gates will open one hour prior to first serve of the opening match each day.
- College of Charleston's clear bag policy is in effect for all matches played at TD Arena this fall. The full policy can be found here.
- There is no designated general parking area for games at TD Arena. There are various parking garages and paid lots in the vicinity of TD Arena that all spectators can utilize.
- Alcohol will be available for purchase at all CofC volleyball matches this fall with last call prior to the third set of the final match each day.
- Friday is First Serve Friday and the first 125 CofC students will receive a free t-shirt and the first 50 CofC students will get free ice cream! Friday is also the first event in the Fall Sports Rewards program in which students will earn prizes by attending the events. Students should be sure to scan in using their CofC ID QR code which can be found in the MyPortal app or by visiting myqr.cofc.edu
- Charleston Volleyball will be hosting their Camper Reunion for the August 26 match versus West Virginia
