MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – College of Charleston controlled play for most of the match in earning a 0-0 draw against CAA co-leader Hofstra on Thursday night at Ralph Lundy Field.

The Cougars gained a hard-fought point largely on the strength of a defensive effort that limited the Pride to only nine shots and just four in the second half. Hofstra entered the evening riding a five-game winning streak.

Charleston fired 11 shots over the final 45 minutes and a total of 14 in the game. The best chance to pull out the victory came with just over a minute remaining when a shot by Lilli Ray from close range sailed high over the goal.

"It was an absolutely incredible 90-minute effort tonight, and it had to be against a fantastic Hofstra side," said head coach Christian Michner. "I was happy with the chances we created on goal, and we defended superbly in our own 18.

"Hofstra is tough to play against, and the game was a bit more direct than we'd have liked, but my team fought hard and deserved the result. It's now a quick shift to get ready for another tough opponent (Campbell) on Sunday."

Olivia Freitas finished with a game-high four shots, and Delaney Dawes was one of three Cougars with two shots with both on target. Savannah Barron preserved the shutout by making four saves.

Kickoff for Sunday's home game against the Camels is at 4 p.m.
