Cougars Turn in Strong Showing at Live in Lou Classic

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Six College of Charleston athletes finished in the top half of strong fields at the Live in Lou Classic on Saturday at Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville.
For the third time in as many meets this fall, Rhian Purves and Mitchel Drees led the Cougars. Both runners finished in 80th place with Purves posting a time of 18:11.3 in the 5k race and Drees crossing in 25:58.9 in the 8k event.
Savannah Stoutt (18:33.0), Sophia Brown (18:41.4) and Shannon Smith (18:46.2) also placed among the top runners in a field of 325. Stoutt, Smith and Sydney Peer (19:17.1) each had PRs. Maeve Gimbert was the fifth Charleston scorer with a time of 18:51.0.
Jackson Reid joined Drees in the upper 50 percent of the field of 426 runners with a time of 26:27.8. Also scoring for the Cougars were Rob DiMedio (27:02.0), Roger Brown (27:13.9) and Hammer Blair (27:36.5).
The Cougars return to a familiar venue on Friday when the compete at the Royals Challenge at McAlpine Park in Charlotte.
