
Jumpers Highlight Cougar Performance on First Day of Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A pair of College of Charleston freshmen pole vaulters led a group of six athletes that altered the record book on the first day of the Carolina Challenge on Friday in Columbia.
Madison Jent cleared 3.57m (11'8 ½") to take over fourth place in school history while Sophie Pierce is now eighth with a mark of 3.47m (11'4 ½"). Jent finished second while Pierce was sixth out of 22 in the open division of the pole vault.
Tonet Tallie had an indoor PR of 3.67m (12'0 ½") to move from third to a tie for second.
Abby Fush also jumped into the top 10 with a mark of 10.86m (35'7 ¾") in the triple jump to move into tenth.
The sprinters were led by Kaitlynn Bailey and Kirsten McKenna. Bailey inched up to a tie for second in the 200 with a time of 25.89 and qualified for the semifinals in the 60 where she ran a 7.82. McKenna crossed in 43.92 in the 300 and is sixth in school history.
Emily Kreek fell just .05 shy of her PR in the 60 hurdles by posting a time of 9.19 in the semifinals. Grace McGrew ran 5:44.91 in the mile and was seventh out of 23 athletes.
The Carolina Challenge concludes Saturday with Cougar athletes competing in the invitational sections of the 800, mile and 5000 as well as the high jump and distance medley relay.
