Cougars Hit Road to Play Aggies

GREENSBORO, N.C. – College of Charleston heads to Greensboro, N.C. to take on North Carolina A&T Oct. 25 and 26. The matches begin at 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. and air on FloVolleyball.

OPENING SERVE:

Charleston swept William & Mary, becoming the eighth team in the country to reach 17 victories in 2024. The Cougars' 13 home wins are also tied for the most in the nation.
CofC recorded 16 blocks in Saturday's match, the second-most in a game this season. Charleston has 15-plus blocks in three contests this season.
The Cougars enter the weekend 49th in the NCAA RPI rankings. Charleston also ranks second in the country in total blocks, fifth in opponent hitting pct. and 13th in team digs.
Tynley Smeltzer was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season. Smeltzer averaged 5.17 digs/set and entered the top 10 in program history in career digs following her 20-dig performance Oct. 19.
CofC has held opponents to a .130 attacking percentage or worse in 13 of the 22 matches, keeping the Tribe to .123 on Friday and .037 Saturday. Charleston's .141 opponent attacking pct. is fifth in the country.
The Cougars have four players with 50-or-more blocks, the most in the CAA. Caitlyn Callahan leads the conference with 101 blocks, while Allie Holland is third in the league with 84. Emily Dykes (68) and Emily Banitt (50) round out the quartet.

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA A&T:

North Carolina A&T is 11-7 in 2024 and 6-4 in the CAA. The Aggies are coming off a weekend sweep of Campbell, winning both matches in straight sets. Hal Clifton is in his 14th season at the helm of the Aggies, holding an overall record of 137-228. Freshman Tyne Ross leads the offense with 265 kills, good for 4.27 kills/set. Ross also averages 4.77 points/set. Defensively, N.C. A&T has four players with 100-plus digs, led by Valeria Estrada's 206.

SERIES HISTORY:

Charleston is 3-1 against North Carolina A&T all time. The Cougars and Aggies first met on Sept. 26, 1998. Charleston has won three straight matches with the teams last playing Nov. 13, 2022, a 3-0 victory for the Cougars.

UP NEXT:

Charleston closes out its non-conference slate with a midweek match at Coastal Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Serve time is set for 6 p.m. from Conway, S.C., with the match airing on ESPN+.
