CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston cross country teams return to Elon on Friday to compete in the CAA Championships.
The meet begins with the men's 8k race at 10 a.m. followed by the women's 6k at 11 a.m. The awards ceremony will take place at noon.
Sophia Brown led the Cougar women in three of four regular season races, including a time of 21:46.04 at the Firetower Project in Boone, N.C., on September 13 that places her seventh in school history.
Freshman
Caroline Himstreet joined Brown as a top finisher for the women this fall when she took second place at the Phoenix Invitational two weeks ago. Her time of 22:03.0 is the 24th-fastest in school history.
Savannah Stoutt, Brown,
Cayden Crismon and
Jeorgi Gavalas also finished in the top 10 at that meet, which was run on the same course as the conference championships.
On the men's side, graduate student
Jackson Reid has paced the team in two races including the Phoenix Invitational when he finished ninth in 26:19.7. Freshmen
Justin Bevacqua and
Andrew Catapano have been the top Cougar runner once each.
Following Friday's meet, both teams will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional on November 15 in Rock Hill, S.C.
