Smeltzer Records 1,500th Career Dig in Win
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tynley Smeltzer became the eighth player in program history to record 1,500 career digs as the College of Charleston beat Northeastern in four sets (23-25, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21) Friday afternoon in TD Arena.
The Cougars improve to 22-8 overall, 14-3 in the CAA and 16-1 at home. The 16 home victories are the most in a season under head coach Jason Kepner. With the loss, Northeastern slips to 10-15 overall and 8-9 in league play.
Caitlyn Callahan had a game high 13 kills in the win while Allie Holland tallied nine blocks, one shy of her career mark.

WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED:
- Emily Dykes tallied a kill in the fourth set to help Charleston roar out to a 10-4 lead, never looking back to win the match.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST NORTHEASTERN:
- Charleston recorded 14 blocks in the win, the eighth time this season the Cougars have reached the mark in a match.
- Callahan led the team with a .524 hitting pct. to go along with her 13 kills and four blocks.
- Holland's nine blocks Friday are tied with Callahan (two times) for the most by a Cougar in a game this season.
- Smeltzer had a game-best 26 digs while Hannah Scott and Emma Appleman both tallied 12 digs each.
- Four different Cougars had two service aces.
- Emily Banitt, Dykes and Anna Smith each recorded nine kills.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston improves 14-8 against Northeastern and 8-3 in four-set matches.
- The Cougars are 145-20 under Kepner when leading 2-1 after the third set.
- CofC has reached 300 blocks in a season for the sixth time and first time since 2010.
- The team's 303.0 blocks are sixth all-time in program history.
- Callahan and Holland are the first Charleston teammates since Jane Feddersen and Krissy Mummey in 2017 to each have 100 blocks in the same season.
- Callahan's 135 total blocks passed Annie Uthe (2004) as the ninth-most blocks in a season in the Rally-Scoring Era.
- Hannah Scott recorded her 12th double-double of the season, dishing out 33 assists to go along with her 12 digs.
