
Charleston Celebrates 50th Season and Seniors

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston celebrates its 50th Anniversary in the final weekend of the regular season. The Cougars host Northeastern Nov. 15 and 16 with both contests scheduled for 1 p.m. CofC will also honor its senior class in a pregame ceremony Saturday.

OPENING SERVE:
- Charleston punched its ticket to the 2024 CAA Volleyball Championship earlier this month. The Championship run Nov. 21-23 in Towson, Md.
- The Cougars finished its regular season road slate with a pair of 3-0 wins at UNCW. Charleston reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2018, and its 13 conference wins are the most since 2017.
- Head coach Jason Kepner has recorded at least 20 victories in 11 seasons at The College.
- Seven of CofC's last eight wins have been in three sets.
- Tynley Smeltzer is 20 digs away from becoming the eighth player in program history to reach 1,500 career digs. The libero recorded her 1,000th career dig at the 2023 CAA Championships against Stony Brook.
- Caitlyn Callahan earned her third CAA Offensive Player of the Week nod following her dominant weekend at UNCW, where she spent the previous two seasons.
- Callahan had 22 kills, three solo blocks, eight total blocks and hit .656 against the Seahawks. The middle blocker is the only player in the country with at least 250 kills, 130 blocks and hitting .380-or-better.
CELEBRATING 50 SEASONS:
- Charleston welcomes nearly 70 alumnae back on campus to celebrate the program's 50th season.
- The Cougars have won 15 conference championships, made 9 NCAA appearances and were the 2018 NIVC Semifinalists.
- Volleyball has 17 inductees in the College of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame.
- All six head coaches in the program's history reached the century mark in career victories, including Sherry Dunbar's 113-22 record (.837-win pct.) over her four years at the helm from 2003-06.
- Entering the weekend, Charleston has a record of 1,250-589 all-time and 740-372 as a NCAA Division I program. The Cougars' all-time conference record is 354-124.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN:
- Northeastern is 10-14 this season and an even 8-8 in the CAA. The Huskies are just 1-9 in true road matches. Lenika Vazquez is in her fifth season at the helm, holding an overall record of 55-59. Georgia Stavrinides leads the team with 179 kills while Millie Loehr and Brynn Smith both sit at 159. Loehr also paces the squad with 94 total blocks while Nadia Koanui has 415 digs, good for 4.72 digs/set.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Charleston is 13-8 in the all-time series with Northeastern and are 7-3 when matches go to four sets. CofC has won four of the last six contests. The team's first met on Sept. 27, 2013, a 3-1 victory for the Cougars.

- Charleston will travel to Towson, Md. for the 2024 CAA Volleyball Championship. The official bracket will be announced upon the conclusion of the regular season.
