
Cougars Face Hofstra in CAA Semifinals

TOWSON, Md. – No. 1 seed College of Charleston takes on No. 4 Hofstra in the 2024 CAA Volleyball Championship Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. The game will air live on FloVolleyball.

OPENING SERVE:
- Charleston won its seventh regular season title under head coach Jason Kepner and earned the No. 1 seed in the 2024 CAA Volleyball Championships after sweeping Northeastern.
- The Cougars enter the postseason 4-2 as the No. 1 seed, looking to win its second CAA Championship since joining the conference.
- Tynley Smeltzer was named CAA Libero of the Year and Second Team All-CAA, becoming the first player in program history to win a major award in back-to-back seasons.
- Smeltzer also became the eighth player in CofC history to reach 1,500 career digs. Smeltzer enters the postseason with career-highs in digs, digs/set, assists and service aces and seventh all-time in career digs with 1,524.
- Emily Banitt and Caitlyn Callahan earned First Team All-CAA recognition, the first time both have received a top team honor. Callahan earned a postseason award for the first time in her career.
- Eight of CofC's last 10 wins have been in three sets.
- 10 Cougars have appeared in a postseason match, highlighted by Banitt's nine and Allie Holland's eight NCAA Tournament contests. The 10 have combined for 37 postseason games.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA:
- Hofstra is 19-9 overall and finished fourth in the CAA with a 14-4 record. Izadora Stedile leads the Pride with 323 kills and has 390 digs. Emily Nunes and Chiara Cucco pace the defense with 102 total blocks and 509 digs, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Charleston is 13-12 in the all-time series against Hofstra and 3-2 against the Pride in the CAA Championships. The Cougars did not play the Pride in the regular season but swept the season series in 2023 in TD Arena. CofC is set to face Hofstra for the sixth time in the conference tournament, the most against a single opponent.
UP NEXT:
- With a win, Charleston will head to its fifth CAA Championship match and first since 2017. The championship takes place on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 4 p.m. from TU Arena.
