Cougars Win Season Opener in Front of Record Crowd

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston women's basketball opened its 2024-25 season defeating Meredith, 124-26, in front of a record-breaking crowd in TD Arena Monday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars began the scoring frenzy when Sophia Tougas knocked down a two-point bucket to kick off the season. Charleston led wire-to-wire, putting together a 98-point margin of victory, the largest in program history.
CofC took a 50-point lead into half, supported by a 36-point scoring period in the second quarter. Later in the contest, the Cougars broke their program record for points in a frame, dropping 39 in the third. A 3-point bucket from Jami Hill knocked the Cougars over the 100-point mark late in the third.
Charleston had four players record double figures, paced by Hill's career day.
LEADING COUGARS
Hill proved to be a threat behind the arch, sinking six 3-pointers for 11 makes in 16 attempts on the day. The sophomore's 28 points shattered her previous career mark, which was eight points last season versus Illinois State. Lara Rohkohl also established a new career scoring high, tallying 23 points and 12 boards on the day for a double-double.
Nyah Willis recorded double-digit scoring with 11 points in her first game in a Charleston jersey. The graduate guard downed three shots behind the paint to contribute to the Cougar scoring. Taryn Barbot was the fourth Cougar to reach double-digits, putting up 15 points along with a career-best seven assists.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Cougars improve to 1-0 on the season in front of a crowd of 4,399, the largest for a women's basketball game in TD Arena history. Charleston also won its fourth consecutive season opener under head coach Robin Harmony. CofC begins the 2024-25 campaign with four of its five contests in the opening month coming inside TD Arena.
