Charleston, S.C. - The College of Charleston will travel to New York City for the CAA Indoor Championship at the famous Nike Armory Track this Thursday and Friday.
Charleston most recently competed in Columbia at the USC Open which saw pole vaulter Luzy Lieger set a school record (4.06m) and earn the CAA Field Athlete of the Week award. Lieger will be aiming for her third straight conference pole vault title after winning at the indoor and out-door meets last season.
Lieger will be joined by Tonet Tallie and Madison Jent to give Charleston strong representation in the pole vault. Tallie tied for fourth at the CAA indoor meet a year ago.
Avery Jackson soared in long jump for a distance of 5.56m at the USC Open to move into second in the Cougar record book and within striking distance of taking over the top spot. Jackson along with Abby Fush are entered in the long and triple jumps.
The Cougars are coming off a strong season with school records broken by Lieger as well as in the distance medley relay, the 60 and 200 by Kaitlynn Bailey and the 800 by Rhian Purves, showings which will make them very competitive against the best in the CAA.
Bailey is running the 60 and 200 this week, and Emily Kreek, who scored in the pentathlon as a freshman last season, joins Bailey in the 200 while also entered in the 60 hurdles.
This is the second-ever CAA Indoor Championship.
