
Lieger Captures Third Straight CAA Pole Vault Title

NEW YORK CITY – Luzy Lieger won her third consecutive CAA pole vault title to lead three College of Charleston scorers in the event on the first day of the conference championships at the Nike Armory in New York.
Lieger cleared 4.00m (13'1 ½") to win her second straight indoor pole vault while also taking first at the outdoor championships last spring. The graduate student from Germany broke her own meet record and earned All-CAA honors for the fifth time in her illustrious career.
Tonet Tallie joined Lieger on the podium by finishing third with a PR of 3.90m (12-9 ½) to move up to second in school history. Freshman Madison Jent also produced points for the Cougars by finishing sixth with a top mark of 3.70m (12'1 ½").
The Cougars also scored in the distance medley relay by finishing third with a school record time of 11:48.99 turned in by Savannah Stoutt, Kaitlynn Bailey, Andie Harding and Rhian Purves.
Bailey led the sprinters by breaking her own school record in the 200 (24.76) and matching her school mark in the 60 (7.69). Emily Kreek climbed from fourth to second in Cougar annals with a time of 9.02 in the 60 hurdles and took over eighth in the 200 (26.68).
Alexandra Ottomanelli cracked the record book in the 800, moving into 10th with a time of 2:19.17, while Purves ran a 2:13.85.
Cayden Crismon remained fourth in school history in the 5000 but lowered her PR to 17:24.52. Maeve Gimbert shattered her PR by 33 seconds and moved from ninth to fifth with a new career best of 17:35.07.
Competition concludes Friday with Kinsley Allen in the high jump, Avery Jackson and Abby Fush in the triple jump, Sophia Brown and Hannah Wise in the 3000 and the 4x800 meter relay.
