CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston baseball played host to Wofford today to open up a three game series. The Cougars jumped out in front on a
Cole Singsank homer in the 2nd. That would be all
Jake Brink needed as the sophomore hurled eight shutout innings to lead the Cougars to a 4-0 win in the series opener.Â
Brink allowed few base runners in the opening innings but after a inning ending double play in the 4th, he would not allow another Terrier on the bases. Brink retired 14 straight from the 4th through the 8th inning, finishing the day giving up just three hits and a pair of walks while striking out four.Â
Cole Singsank opened up the scoring for Charleston, hitting his fourth homer of the season in the 2nd inning. In the 4th, Charleston added on when
JD Suarez delivered his first hit of the season, a two-out RBI single into left field to bring home
Avery Neaves. Neaves would drive in the next Charleston run in the 5th with a two-out RBI double to score Singsank from first. Next batter,
Luke Wood hit a double to the opposite field, scoring Neaves and pushing the lead to 4-0.Â
After Brink wrapped up the 8th,
Davis Aiken came on to pitch the 9th, surrendering one two-out walk before closing the book on a 4-0 win.Â
