BUIES CREEK, N.C. – College of Charleston built a 10-run lead and held on for a 12-8 victory over Campbell on Sunday to clinch its fifth-straight series victory.
The Cougars (31-11, 14-4 CAA) remained in a first-place tie with UNCW after the Seahawks finished off a series win at William & Mary. Northeastern is one game back as the race for the regular season championship continues to heat up.
After dropping the opening game to the Camels, Charleston rebounded to score 29 runs on 31 hits over the final two and has won 17 of 19 overall and 13 of its last 15 conference contests. The Cougars are 20 games over .500 at the end of April for the first time since 2015.

Kevin Madden and
Avery Neaves each had three hits, and
Trotter Harlan drove in three runs to move into fourth place in school history with 166 career RBI. Mathis reached base in 14 of 17 plate appearances over the weekend, including 11 hits and three walks, scored seven runs and drove in 10.
Neaves scored three times Sunday after crossing the plate five times in the middle game of the series. Two of Madden's hits were doubles, and he knocked in a pair of runs.
Connor Campbell allowed seven hits and four runs in 5.1 innings but was able to secure his seventh victory of the season. After the Camels cut their deficit to three in the eighth,
Davis Aiken entered and retired all five batters he faced for his CAA-leading ninth save.
The Cougars do not have a midweek game scheduled and are back in action when they play three at Towson beginning Friday.
