CHARLESTON, S.C.- College of Charleston men's soccer head coach Keith Wiggans has announced the 2024 slate for the Cougars' 50th anniversary season, consisting of 17 opponents and eight home games.
"I am very excited about the schedule we have this fall," said Wiggans. "The CAA continues to be a strong conference, paired with a tough out of conference schedule as well."
Charleston will begin their season on August 22 with a road matchup at Coastal Carolina, before hosting their home opener on August 26.
"On the road at Coastal Carolina is a tough early test for us," said Wiggans. "They have a great history of being a strong program."
The Cougars will wrap up August in Spartanburg to face USC Upstate before kicking off September at home versus Jacksonville for the 50th anniversary game.
"We are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of College of Charleston Soccer this season," Wiggans says. "We are excited to see many alumni at home and on the road as they all greatly support the program. On Friday, September 6 we will host Jacksonville at 7 p.m. in our annual Aaron Olitsky Memorial Game. That will also be the start of our Anniversary weekend with an alumni game and banquet to follow on Saturday, September 7."
Men's soccer will face Queens on the road (Sept. 10) before their conference opener at Stony Brook on September 14.
The Cougars return to Patriots Point for two games, taking on Furman (Sept. 17) and Delaware (Sept. 21).
"We are excited to have Furman on the schedule," Wiggans says. "Furman was a rival of ours from the Southern Conference days."
Charleston will close out September taking on Georgia Southern on the road (Sept. 24) followed by Monmouth at home (Sept. 28).
The Cougars will begin October with a two-game road stint, traveling to UNCW (Oct. 5) followed by a trip to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina (Oct. 8).
"UNC will be our toughest road test," says Wiggans. "They were minutes away from going to the Final Four last year and I know they will be strong again this fall."
Wrapping up October, Charleston will play two home matches versus Northeastern (Oct. 12) and North Florida (Oct. 16) before facing Campbell (Oct. 19) on the road. The Cougars will take on reigning CAA champions Hofstra at home (Oct. 26) to close out the month.
"Hofstra is a strong team, winning the league the last three years in a row," Wiggans says. "It will be nice to play them at Patriots this year where we are 10-3-4 the last two seasons."
Charleston will wrap up its regular season at Drexel on November 2, followed by the CAA Tournament on November 7.
All home games will be played at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium and are free admission.
